Agreed! In the meantime, there is Powell’s score for Solo, and that gives us a pretty good idea of what his Star Wars sound is like, though he might change it somewhat for a film on the main saga storyline.

In my opinion he’s one of the only composers writing in the same manner as John Williams at present.

But that will inevitably happen. I think that the next Star Wars composer, once Williams passes (sad thought!) would undoubtedly be Michael Giacchino. Not only is the man a constant collaborator of J.J. Abrams, Episode VII’s director, but also he provided the score for a Star Wars theme park event and seems to have a similar style to Williams.

Honestly, I think Giacchino and Williams should collaborate on the upcoming film. Then once Williams is no longer able to score the series, Giacchino will have established himself as a Star Wars composer.
